AHA-BHA 12 Intense Treatment Review

Updated On:

Overview

This cream, which is offered under the brand Camocare, is a formula designed to create younger looking skin through the use of alpha and beta hydroxy acids. The company that manufactures the AHA/BHA 12% Intense Treatment, Abkit, provides some information about this product and other products it offers on its company website. However, the products are not directly available for sale through Abkit. Instead, the company directs consumers interested in the products to online retailers where they can make purchases.

The AHA/BHA 12% Intense Treatment is very reasonably priced, selling for under $20 through some online retailers. The product claims to increase softness, smoothness and clarity on the skin. It is recommended that customers begin using this product every other day until they see how their skin responds to the ingredients. If no irritation occurs, consumers are encouraged to increase use to once or twice a day, depending on what works best for the individual and the sensitivity of the skin. This should suggest right away that the formula in the AHA/BHA 12% Intense Treatment is potentially irritating, especially to sensitive skin types. However, we will take a closer look to see if those who can use the formula will see positive results.

Product Details

We were disappointed to see that Abkit does not provide a complete ingredient list for the AHA/BHA 12% Intense Treatment. However, we did find this information through an online retailer. Ingredients include Chamomile Extract, Deionized Water, Sugar Cane Extract, Citrus Extract, Apple Extract, Green Tea Extract, Dicapryl Ether, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Stearic Acid, Shea Butter, Cyclomethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Squalane, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Sodium Citrate, Willow Bark Extract, Ginger Extract, Grapefruit Extract, Orange Fruit Extract, Xanthan Gum, Methylparaben, Imidazolidinyl Urea. This list is in addition to the alpha and beta hydroxy acids that are included for exfoliation purposes.

While hydroxyl acids are a common addition to many skin care regimens, they are not the most effective in anti-aging products. Their primary purpose is to exfoliate the skin, shedding the dry, dead skin cells on the surface to reveal smoother, softer skin underneath. Although these substances will have some effect on fine lines, they will not do much to diminish the appearance of deeper wrinkles. We prefer to see patented ingredients like argireline and matrixyl in anti-aging formulas, since these have been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles and stimulate collagen production. The AHA/BHA 12% Intense Treatment does not appear to contain either of these.

The Good

  • The Intense Treatment may have some overall benefit to the skin.
  • The product is reasonably priced and readily available.

The Bad

  • There are no proven anti-aging ingredients in the formula.
  • The products are not available for purchase from the company website.
  • Some of the ingredients may be irritating to sensitive skin.

The Bottom Line

While there may be some benefits to using hydroxyl acids on the skin, this is not necessarily the best choice for anti-aging purposes. We prefer to see products that include proven ingredients like matrixyl and argireline for consumers that are serious about winning the war on wrinkles.
