Algodermia is an Italian-based skin care company that has been in business since 1974. The entire line of products touts nutrients and ingredients taken directly from the sea, such as algae extracts and seaweed off the coast of Normandy and Brittany. The products are available on the Algodermia USA website, but only to members who have registered on the website. They can also be purchased through some online retailers, although specific products may be a bit difficult to find.

The Algodermia website is fairly easy to navigate and provides ample information about the various products available. However complete ingredient lists do not appear to be available, which is unfortunate considering that this information allows a consumer the ability to make educated decisions about their skin care based on a product's effectiveness and safety. We also did not find a money back guarantee or customer testimonials to show that the company stands behind the products it offers 100%. This is particularly concerning considering the price of some of the Algodermia products. For example, the Botoprogram Redensifying Elixir costs about $78 on some websites at the time of this review.

Product Details

For the purpose of this review, we will take a closer look at an Algodermia product that is designed with anti-aging needs in mind. The Botoprogram Redensifying Elixir is described on the Algodermia website as "extremely innovative, soft and precious." The formula claims to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles to provide smoother, younger-looking skin. Although the company did not provide a complete ingredient list for the product, we were able to find this information from an online retailer.

We are pleased to see that the formula appears to include the patented wrinkle agent argireline, which relaxes facial muscles that lead to the formation of those wrinkles. Argireline has been proven in clinical studies to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 30%. Hyaluronic acid is another effective anti-aging ingredient that can diminish fine lines by hydrating and smoothing the skin's surface. However, hyaluronic acid is much more effective when it is combined with matrixyl, a substance that can stimulate collagen production in the skin. Matrixyl is not included in this Algodermia formula.

While many consumers are lured by the idea of European skin care, there isn't much in the Algodermia products that cannot be purchased directly from manufacturers in the United States. Although this company does offer some compelling anti-aging ingredients in their formulas, we believe consumers can find more effective ingredient lists for a more reasonable price elsewhere.
