Aloette Review

Updated On:

Overview

As their company name implies, Aloette Cosmetics produce more than just skin care products. In fact, Aloette offers a wide range of bath products as well as all kinds of makeup and skin care treatments. All products claim to make use of the natural healing properties found in the aloe plant. However, to make things easier we will focus on Aloette's skin care treatments. Even when you narrow things down to just skin products, you still have a wide range of creams, washes and masks to choose from, each targeted to perform a specific function. Aloette offers over a dozen products in their anti-aging line alone, all of them priced in the mid-range at around $40-$60 per bottle. Like any product line that produces such a broad range of products, Aloette's anti-age skin care line is designed to be used as a set. So, for example, Aloette's Flawless HP Rapid Skin Perfection serum is intended to be used along with their Lumitone PC Pigment Correcting Spot Treatment for optimal results. Some users may find this confusing and tedious. The official Aloette tries to provide product pairings, but the choices are still dizzying.

While we are not discussing Aloette's makeup line in detail, it is worth pointing out that many of their skin care products are recommended for use with their specially formulated foundations and concealers. Also, most of their makeup products have some level of SPF, meaning they will help protect against harmful free radicals triggered by direct sunlight. But again, one down-side to offering such a broad range of products is that it can be overwhelming for first time users.

Product Details

Their website makes the claim that "Aloette uses aloe vera at the core of every product." As an active ingredient, aloe vera has been show to have many general healing properties. For example, it is famous for soothing burns, insect bites and poison ivy, meaning that raw aloe is a great natural anti-inflammatory agent. Since aloe is also a heavily water-based plant, moisturizers made with aloe vera are famous for their hydrating properties. Unfortunately, Aloette provides little information on how the aloe is blended with other ingredients, and sometimes this formulation technique can make as much of a difference in the product as the ingredients themselves.

Other popular ingredients found in Aloette products seem to be the perennial naturals, vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E. While these vitamins certainly can't hurt you in topical products, there is little conclusive evidence to support any strong beneficial claims these vitamins might make when applied topically. They are conclusively shown to benefit when ingested. Finally, the fruit extract shea butter is present in at least one product. This fatty fruit extract is a proven moisturizer. Tracking down a master list of all ingredients in a particular Aloette product can also be difficult, and this information is not provided on their website.

The Good

  • A product is offered for any possible skin condition.
  • Value packages and clearance outlet both available on official website.
  • Website offers an e-newsletter with skin care tips and advice.

The Bad

  • Sheer number of products available can be confusing.
  • Difficult to determine specific ingredients in individual product, meaning that you will have trouble determining what is in the product you want to buy.
  • Company taken to court by the ERSP over infomercial claims. Later removed certain claims from advertising.
  • Active ingredients don't seem very unique or innovative.

The Bottom Line

Aloette seems to be a decent line of cosmetics and skin treatments. Like with any brand offering this many products, quality may vary dramatically between two different products. This means you will probably have to experiment to find a product that meets your needs. It’s probably going to be a question of finding what works for you, although some ingredients found in Aloette products are questionable. If you’re the kind of person who runs away when you hear the words “trial and error,” you’ll probably be better off looking for another option.
