Product Details

One of the key ingredients in most of the Aveda anti-aging products is argan oil, which is derived from the Argan tree that lives on the edges of the Sahara Desert. The oil claims to be rich in vitamin E, polyunsaturated fatty acids and linoleic acid. The Berber women who live in the region have been using the oil from this tree for centuries for both medicinal and cosmetic purposes. This ingredient is supposed to be an effective one in combating the aging process because the antioxidant properties slow the damage to the skin and the hydrating properties keep the skin soft, supple and more youthful.

Another ingredient in these products is glucosamine, which has been shown to effectively treat the skin for sun damage. Studies have also shown that using glucosamine stimulated the production of hyaluronic acid, which effectively hydrates the skin and diminishes the look of lines and wrinkles. Buckwheat wax and peptides are also listed as ingredients that can reduce lines and wrinkles on the face. We were unable to come up with much evidence to support the use of buckwheat wax, although Aveda claims that all products are clinically proven in their claims.

The Bad

  • None of the proven anti-aging ingredients like matrixyl, argireline or collagen are listed in the ingredients for Aveda Anti Aging.
  • The price is high and there is no discount for purchasing sets.
  • It is recommended that more than one product be used at a time for best results.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to quality and protecting the environment, Aveda products cannot be beat in the mainstream skin care market. However, the Aveda anti-aging line from this popular brand may not the most effective in slowing and reversing the aging process. For the money, there are probably more effective anti-aging products available from smaller brands that are focusing all of their research budget on wrinkle fighting.
