Aveeno Review

Overview

As a manufacturer of skin care products, Aveeno is an acknowledged pioneer in the use of natural ingredients. The company has been in business for over 60 years, and their product lines are extensive. The Aveeno banner flies over products designed for body care, lip care and face care. Aveeno also offers products that have been specially designed for babies and for sun damage prevention. Is there anything linking this large number of diverse products? Most Aveeno lotions incorporate what Aveeno themselves call Active Naturals. Popular Active Naturals found in many Aveeno products include soy, oats and chamomile. Soy, especially, is a mainstay in their skin care line off products.

Aveeno's Active Naturals philosophy has been with the company since their first product, a "Soothing Bath Treatment" developed in 1945. This bath treatment, developed in partnership with the Mayo clinic, was made of finely ground oatmeal, and it proved popular and effective as both a moisturizer and a treatment for more serious skin rashes and irritations. However, Aveeno have only been producing their line of skin care products since 2002. Many of their daily skin moisturizers also include an SPF of some strength to protect against free radical causing UV rays. Aveeno products are definitely on the lower end of the skin treatment spectrum, and can be found in drugstores and malls everywhere.

Product Details

The active ingredient in Aveeno skin care products is their Total Soy Complex. It is proven that even just handling soy over long periods of time contributes noticeably to healthy skin texture, tone and radiance. What makes Aveeno products different from other products that their soy elements go through their own extraction process that, unlike other soy skin products, leaves all of the helpful lipids and proteins in soy fully intact. The result of this is the Total Soy Complex. Aveeno products are also all "fragrance free" meaning that any product scent is derived from the natural ingredients.

Other Aveeno Positively Radiant moisturizer ingredients are:

Avobenzone 3% (Sunscreen), Homosalate 12% (Sunscreen), Octisalate 5% (Sunscreen), Octocrylene 1.7% (Sunscreen), Oxybenzone 3% (Sunscreen)

The Good

  • Website has an extensive selection of skin care FAQ's, as well as a skin care advisor page.
  • Website lets you write in to Ask Aveeno skin care questions. We did not try a write-in, so we don't know the quality of the answers or the response time.

The Bad

  • Official website does not offer products for mail order.
  • Company has only been in business making skin specific products since 2002.
  • Website does not offer guarantees or testimonials.

The Bottom Line

Aveeno seems to make a solid line of natural moisturizers and other skin care products that are affordable ands easily available to the general public. The products do not claim to perform miracles, nor will they. Aveeno moisturizers will probably give you fresher, more even skin and protect your skin adequately from UV ray damage, but they will not erase wrinkles the way more targeted and refined skin care products will. If you want more than an average daily moisturizer, you should look into more potent skin care treatments.
