Beehive Botanicals Review

Updated On:

Overview

Beehive Botanicals Propolis Derma Cream is sold through many natural food stores and online retailers. It is marketed as an overall beneficial skin cream and not specifically targeted to mature skin or wrinkles. The main active ingredient in Beehive Botanicals Derma is bee propolis, a sticky resinous substance manufactured by bees to help seal up beehives. Bee propolis is said to have some antimicrobial properties, but most of the scant studies on the substance focus on the effect when ingested orally.

We were unable to locate an official website for Beehive Botanicals, which concerns us. The best skin care companies make sure that they have their own website so that they can present the product, customer testimonials, before and after pictures, and the results of clinical testing on the product. The only information available on Beehive Botanicals Derma comes from third party online retailers. Because there is no official website, there does not appear to be a manufacturer’s satisfaction guarantee on the product or any product samples or trial sizes available.

Product Details

According to several online retailers, the ingredients in Beehive Botanicals Propolis Derma Cream are: Purified Water, Honey, Stearic Acid, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Sodium Laurimindipropinate, Bee Propolis, Glycerine, Sweet Almond Oil, Hexyl Laurate, Soya Sterol, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Methyl Paraben, Polymethyl Bicyclic Oxazoline, Tetra-sodium, EDTA, Carbomer 940, Sodium PCA, Propyl Paraben, and Vitamin E.

Most of the ingredients are commonly included in mediocre moisturizers found in any department store. Vitamin E is known to have some anti-inflammatory and soothing properties but it is listed as the last ingredient so it is not clear whether there is enough in the cream to be effective. The main active ingredient is bee propolis, which concerns us for a number of reasons. The most important one is that it can trigger anaphylactic shock in those who are allergic to beestings. Consumers who are allergic or have never been stung by a bee or used propolis or royal jelly before should avoid this product. The second reason is that there is very little research on bee propolis and we were unable to locate any that supported its claimed effects on the skin. When looking for an effective moisturizer, we always look for products that contain hyaluronic acid, which has been clinically-proven to deeply hydrate the skin and restore the skin’s moisture barrier.

The Good

  • Widely available through online sources.

The Bad

  • Contains known allergens.
  • No official web presence.
  • No money-back guarantee.
  • May not contain effective ingredients.

The Bottom Line

There are so many skin care products on the market today that claim to have beneficial effects on the skin. We find that many of them simply do not contain ingredients that could effectively keep those promises. This appears to be the case with Beehive Botanicals Propolis Derma Cream. Those seeking a moisturizer with proven anti-aging benefits should look for ones that contain hyaluronic acid and peptides like Matrixyl 3000 or Argiriline. Keep in mind that if you purchase this product and it doesn’t work for you, you may not be able to get your money back.
