Benetint Review

Updated On:

Overview

The “original blush” offered by the brand Benefit Cosmetics, Benetint, is still a popular product. Benefit Cosmetics was opened in 1976 by twin sisters Jean and Ford , who started the brand in San Francisco. Their first product was a blush called Benetint. Growing from the small boutique in California, Benefit Cosmetics is now represented in five continents and twenty-five countries.

Product Details

Benetint is advertised as “the original—and still the best—rose-tinted cheek and lip stain.” This product comes in bulky nail polish-like bottles which hold a whopping 4 ounces of the product for the value price of $20. Benefit Benetint is supposed to be “kiss-proof” as well as water-proof. The underlying concept being that whoever wears this product will have the attention of everyone in their vicinity and that it is suitable for use over long periods of time. This product is meant to be applied with the provided brush; but many customers lament about it wishing that Benefit would evolve, as other companies have, to roller applicators.

This year Benefit has modernized the packaging of Bentint selling it in .21 oz “pocket pal” containers which also sell for twenty dollars each. This new concept has given the company honorable mention under the category “2008 real simple best multi-tasking makeup picks.” Both products contain the same ingredients, which are: Water, Rose Water, Glycerin, Quaternium-15, and Carmine. All of these are safe for most people, with the exception of Quaternium-15, which is an allergen. To vulnerable individuals it will cause an outbreak. Some customers who blogged about this product complain that Benetint “will accentuate any fine lines you may have.” Other awards this product has won include Real Simple magazine's "can't-live-without-household-products-hall-of-fame" award, Marie Claire's "Top 25 Products that Changed our Lives", and it has been touted as the "”best blush” by Elle magazine in 2006.

The Good

  • This product has been around for over two decades and is still going strong.
  • The ingredient list is simple and uncluttered.
  • This product in the bottled version of Benetint is low-priced.

The Bad

  • Benetint may accentuate wrinkles or lines in your face.
  • The ingredient Quaternium-15 acts as an allergen sometimes.
  • Only comes in one color: rose red.

The Bottom Line

This product has been widely used over the last twenty years with success. Odds are if you buy it you’ll like it, assuming what you’re looking for is a long-lasting, rose-tinted blush. The price is reasonable for the bottle-sized version of Benetint. If you buy the travel version you are spending twenty-times as much as you would on the bottled version. This product seems to be safe; however the use of Quaternium-15 in the product may cause you to break out in a rash so contact your dermatologist first. Of course, if you are looking for a wrinkle fighter, this cosmetic product is probably not the best choice for you.
