Caudalie Review

Updated On:

Overview

Caudalie was started in the 1990’s through research that involved grape seed polyphenols. These are high in antioxidants. The antioxidants in the grape seed are known for fighting free radicals, which Caudalie says in turn, helps with aging. In 1995 Caudalie was officially founded as a company and began making their products with this antioxidant philosophy.

Product Details

There are a wide range of products available from Caudalie. From skin care creams to drinking teas, Caudalie has a variety of products to choose from; too many to list here. We will feature a few selections.

Crushed Cabernet Scrub: Touted as their signature scrub, the crushed cabernet includes grape-seed oil, crushed grape seeds, brown sugar, honey, and several essential oils. This scrub is to be used up to twice a week for exfoliation. This ingredient list makes you wonder if you’re supposed to wash with it or eat it!

Firming Concentrate: This concentrate is supposed to firm your skin’s elasticity. The concentrate is for those who are looking to get rid of stretch marks or for a boost after weight loss. The concentrate has essential oils of peppermint, lemon, and Douglas pine. This formula claims to be 100% natural.

Organic Herbal Teas: These teas are made for weight loss or weight maintenance. Certified organic, these teas come in several different flavors and are supposed to be used in conjunction with any weight loss routine you are following.

The Good

  • Caudalie’s line is completely paraben-free according to the website.
  • The products are not tested on animals, nor do they contain any animal by-products.
  • The website allows easy navigation. There are tools to search for the products by category or by what skin care needs you have.

The Bad

  • The website only seems to disclose the ingredients that we would consider active. It is unclear if there are additional ingredients that make up these products.
  • While the background of the company is filled with nature-centric imagery, the only way to read more about the science of Caudalie is to make an account with personal information to get access to the details. We feel this information should be available without you having to expose your personal information.
  • Since you must log personal information to see any more of the science behind Caudalie we have to say that there isn’t any dermatological or clinical studies that can attest to the company’s products according to the easy accessible information on the website.
  • Who wants to become part of a mailing list of products they may not decide to purchase?

The Bottom Line

Caudalie offers a plethora of products that use grape seed oil and polyphenols. These are both products that the skin care industry claims are good for our skin. However, it’s frustrating when you want a full list of ingredients and you can’t get one. The products, for the most part, are for general cleansing and maintenance. There are few products that are specifically for problem skin. Similarly, there are few Caudalie products that specifically target wrinkles and the effects of aging—most of this brand's products seem to be very generalized skin care and health industry offerings.
