Overview
SkinCeuticals is the company the brings us the product CE Ferulic; a company that is well known for its focus on research and development in the field of skin care. In fact, this company conducts much of the research on its products at well recognized institutions like Duke University Medical Center and the National Institute of Health. CE Ferulic already has a point in its corner, with backing from a sound skin care company. However, we will look closely at this product to determine whether it really can deliver what it promises.
CE Ferulic combines some potent antioxidants into a formula that is designed to "neutralize free radicals, help build collagen and provide “unmatched antioxidant protection", according to the company website. The product is available for sale through the company website and also from numerous online retailers. The price is on the high side at about $140 at the time of this review. If you purchase the product directly from the company, there does seem to be a 30-day money back guarantee available. Skinceuticals recommends that you use the product each morning by applying a few drops to the face, neck and chest. The product will absorb into the skin, where it cannot be washed off. It is also advised that you follow up the application of CE Ferulic with one of the company's moisturizers and/or sunscreens.
Product Details
There are three main ingredients that are touted in CE Ferulic; L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), alpha tocopherol (vitamin E) and ferulic acid. Vitamins C and E are powerful antioxidants, particularly in the concentration that is provided in the CE Ferulic formula. While most professionals will recommend a minimum of 10% L-ascorbic acid to be included in an effective skin treatment, CE Ferulic provides 15%. The ferulic acid in the formula is supposed to boost the effectiveness of the vitamins in protecting the skin from damage caused by UVA and UVB rays. According to SkinCeuticals, that boost in effectiveness is as high as double the protection with just the vitamins C and E.
While the antioxidant combination sounds very promising at protecting the skin from free radical damage, there are no other ingredients that would suggest this product would be effective in diminishing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. For this purpose, we would watch for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, matrixyl 3000, argireline and soluble collagen. None of these ingredients are listed for CE Ferulic.
The Good
- A high potency of antioxidants will protect the skin from free radical damage.
- There is ample information about the product on the manufacturer’s website.
- Research appears to be of the highest quality for all of this company's products.
The Bad
- The price tag on the CE Ferulic is definitely on the high side.
- There are no proven ingredients in the formula to diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
- The product is recommended for use with other SkinCeutical products, which could end up in a costly and time consuming daily regimen.
- We would like to see more research on Ferulic acid and skincare, especially in the concentration used by CE Ferulic.
The Bottom Line
For the money, this product may offer you all of the antioxidant protection you have ever wanted. However, as a wrinkle cream, CE Ferulic leaves much to be desired. We see no ingredients in this product that will actually help to minimize existing wrinkles, although it does seem like it would provide pretty good protection to prevent new wrinkles.
