Cellex C Contour Review

Updated On:

Overview

Cellex-C Contour is an eye gel, and one of many anti-aging products offered in the Cellex-C skin care line. All of the Cellex-C anti-aging formulas boast the same basic ingredient as their base; L-ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, which is said to promote collagen production and reduce the look of lines and wrinkles on the skin. The Cellex-C Contour gel for eyes claims to "significantly reduce the signs of aging around the eyes such as squint lines, sagging skin and wrinkles. It is supposed to be used on normal to oily skin. Those with dry, sensitive or mature skin are advised to use the Cellex-C Contour Cream instead of the gel. The formula is similar, but it is buffered with moisturizers to protect this skin type to avoid irritation and make the product more soothing to use.

We are concerned with companies that provide so many different products with similar formulas and functions. We believe this makes it more challenging for a consumer to choose the right product for her from the many possibilities available. Many consumers prefer a single, well prepared formula that will satisfy most of their anti-aging needs in one container. However, we will take a closer look at the Cellex-C Contour formula to see if it is an effective choice for the delicate eye area.

Product Details

The ingredients in the Cellex-C Contour Gel include Water (Aqua), Ascorbic Acid, Acetyl Tyrosine, Zinc Sulfate, Bioflavonoids, Sodium Hyaluronate and the Patented Cellex-C Complex. The concentration of L-ascorbic acid in the eye gel is 5%, which is the highest recommended dosage for the delicate skin around the eye. The company recommends that you place one or two drops of the gel under the eyes once a day and then apply your choice of moisturizer as necessary.

L-ascorbic acid has been shown to be effective against wrinkles, but this substance has some problems when used in anti-aging products. First, concentrations are not always high enough to have the desired effect. This problem appears to be addressed with the Cellex-C Contour Eye Gel, since it contains the highest concentration possible for use on this area of the skin. The other problem with vitamin C in skin care is oxidation; which can occur rather easily with these products and affects the potency of the formula. We cannot know how much oxidation occurs with the Cellex-C products, although discoloration of any topical product is usually a sign that oxidation has occurred.

The Good

  • The Cellex-C Contour Gel contains the highest safe concentration of L-ascorbic acid possible.

The Bad

  • Many products in the Cellex-C anti-aging line can make it difficult to choose just one.
  • Other proven anti-wrinkle ingredients like matrixyl and argireline are absent from the formula.
  • We could not find customer testimonials or before and after photos to back up the claims made by this product.
  • Obviously, the Cellex-C Contour Eye Gel is only formulated to treat the eye area, and will not work with other wrinkle problem areas.

The Bottom Line

The Cellex-C Contour Eye Gel may provide some benefits to this delicate area of the skin. However, there are more potent ingredients that may provide more dramatic benefits in other formulas. As an eye treatment, this has potential, although we’re still dubious about basing a product line solely on Vitamin C.
