CelluZyme Review

Updated On:

Overview

CelluZyme is an active ingredient, featured most prominently in the product Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Mark Fading Peel. This product appears to be one of the only skin care options out there that features CelluZyme, and unfortunately few details about the ingredient are available online. However, it is clear that CelluZyme is more of an acne fighting agent than a wrinkle fighter. It is also not easy to tell if Neutrogena still manufacturers the Acne Mark Fading Peel. It seems as if CelluZyme was a skin repair agent of some sort, meaning that it could contribute to overall healthier looking skin, and a smoother skin tone.

Directions for the Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Facial Mask say to apply it in the evening as part of your nightly beauty care regimen. Use should be restricted to 2-3 nights a week, and optimal results should be apparent after eight weeks of consistent use. It seems as if CelluZyme will have less of an effect on existing acne breakouts, and will be more effective when it comes to repairing older scars and soothing inflammation.

Product Details

Since so little information was available about this CelluZyme product, we were unable to find a full list of included ingredients. We did find a list of active ingredients, which are: Salicylic Acid 2 %, Water, Mucor Miehei Extract, Glycerin, PEG-8, Methyl Gluceth 20, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Polyethylene, PPG-5, and Ceteth-20. User reviews all complain about the smell of the Neutrogena product, describing it as everything from “odd” to “unbearable.” Some users also report a “tingling” or “burning” sensation with use, and apparently the product packaging says that this is normal and means that the product is working. One reason that it may be difficult to find information on CelluZyme is that this was apparently “exclusive” technology, and it’s use has been restricted to just a few Neutrogena branded products. When the Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Mask was available, it seems like it retailed for around $7 from most big-name drugstores.

The Good

  • Product had some favorable reviews on acne info websites.
  • Product was affordable.

The Bad

  • Product was an acne fighter, not a wrinkle treatment.
  • This CelluZyme product had a bad smell, according to reviews.
  • Some users complaining of “burning.”
  • This CelluZyme product does not seem to be available anymore.

The Bottom Line

When it was on the market, Neutrogena’s CelluZyme face mask received mixed reviews as an acne fighter. Some users reported satisfactory results, while other complained about the smell. As a skin care treatment, CelluZyme seems more appropriate for healing damaged or inflamed skin. Those looking for a wrinkle fighting treatment would be better off with one of the several high-tech peptide-based formulas that are available.
