Overview
Cetaphil offers a line of skin care products that are specially formulated to be gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. The line primarily includes cleansers and moisturizers both for the face and the rest of the body. The product website is easy to navigate and provides sufficient information about the products. However, it does not provide the Cetaphil products for sale; instead, the website directs consumers to a variety of online retailers and physical stores that offer this line at a reasonable price.
Because the products are not offered for sale on the product website, we were unable to find information about a money back guarantee. There also did not appear to be customer testimonials available for Cetaphil products. Many companies choose to provide this sort of information to offer consumers confidence in their purchases by backing up the claims of the products with concrete evidence.
Product Details
For the sake of this review, we will look at one specific Cetaphil product, the Daily Facial Moisturizer. This product promises protection from the sun's harmful rays, which also means protection from the aging process like the appearance of fine lines. The ingredients included in this formula include Avobenzone 3%, Octocrylene 10%, Water, Diisopropyl Adipate, Cyclomethicone, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer 940, Disodium EDTA and Triethanolamine.
Avobenzone is also known as Parsol 1789, a sunscreen that provides significant UVA protection. Octocrylene is another type of sunscreen that offers UVB and some UVA protection. Combining the two ingredients into a single product means a significant amount of sun protection that may indeed postpone the aging process. However, we do not see anything in this formula that would suggest the Cetaphil moisturizer would be effective on signs of the aging process that have already occurred. For this purpose, we would advise consumers to look for proven ingredients like matrixyl, argireline, collagen and hyaluronic acid. None of these substances are included in this Cetaphil moisturizer.
The Good
- Cetaphil products have a reputation for quality, effectiveness and gentleness.
- The products are easily available and reasonably priced.
The Bad
- There are no proven anti-aging substances in this Cetaphil formula.
- We were unable to find a money back guarantee on these products.
- There do not appear to be customer testimonials offered.
The Bottom Line
If you are looking for a general, gentle cleanser and moisturizer that will offer significant sunscreen protection appropriate for all skin types, Cetaphil offers some adequate products to the effect. However, we advise consumers to look for anti-aging products that contain proven substances like matrixyl, argireline and hyaluronic acid. Since this Cetaphil moisturizer does not contain any of these important ingredients, we do not believe this product would be particularly effective in reducing the signs of aging that have already manifested. We would encourage consumers to check out other more effective formulas for their specific anti-aging needs.
