Overview
Dermagenetics DNA UltraCustom is a very unique take on skin care. This product requires you to buy a DNA testing kit and send in a sample. This is very easy to do as you just swab your cheek, put the swab in a bag, then mail it to the company. Dermagenetics was created by a company called GeneLink after 10 years of research.
After that, the Dermagenetics DNA UltraCustom cream you will receive in 3-4 weeks claims to eliminate and prevent the formation of wrinkles, make your skin more firm, hydrate the skin, increase the production of collagen and elastin, eliminate age spots, and make your skin look healthy and “glowing”. This product could either be seen as revolutionary or scary depending on your view of genetics and whether or not you trust corporations with your DNA.
Product Details
The Dermagenetics DNA UltraCustom cream isn't your typical beauty product that you can run out and buy. This involves 3-4 weeks of waiting after you send in your initial cheek swab DNA sample. The end result is that you will receive a 30 mL bottle of cream that is supposed to be customized to work with your DNA or, according to the website, you’re your “SNPs or single nucleotide polymorphisms.” The information you can find about this is very technical and won't mean much to your average consumer unless they work in a science career of some kind.
Not surprisingly, the Dermagenetics product is not cheap. For 30 mL, you will pay over $250. At the time of this review, the official Dermagenetics website says this product is in the process of re-launching and isn't accepting new customers. You can sign up for a newsletter but the rest of the site doesn't work at this time.
The Good
- This product claims to customize each and every cream to match aspects of your DNA. This kind of individual attention can be very appealing!
The Bad
- This product seems to be discontinued for a while. The official website says it will re-launch soon.
- There is little information available in the form of testimonials or third party reviews.
- This product is extremely expensive. $250 will get you 30mL.
- Some people may not trust private companies with their DNA information.
The Bottom Line
Dermagenetics DNA UltraCustom can be looked at in two different ways. On one hand, this might possibly be the future of the beauty products industry. On the other hand, it may just be a very expensive gimmick that also gets your DNA into the hands of a private corporation, which could be an alarming concept for some potential users. Either way, this product isn't available at this time so we recommend sticking with an anti-aging product that contains some powerful, proven wrinkle fighting ingredients and is a little less exotic.
