DermaNew Review

Updated On:

Overview

DermaNew was created when two Beverly Hills salon owners, Amby Longhofer and Dean Rhoades, started offering microdermabrasion to their clients. Both Amby and Dean wanted to provide a less expensive option and one that clients could use at home.

DermaNew came about after developing a system that was quick and easy for their clients to learn. Recent changes have brought about a new addition to the microdermabrasion system called Hyper BarOX Oxygen Infuser, which claims to give your skin 90% more oxygen during the treatment. The combination of the abrasion system and the Hyper BarOX is supposed to deliver real results with the first use.

DermaNew has since expanded their company from only the microdermabrasion system to anti-aging products as well.

These 2 products are all to be used with the microdermabrasion kit.

The Good

  • Website offers helpful 1-800 line and contact info.
  • You can buy the products directly from the website.
  • There is a full list of ingredients for each product.

The Bad

  • There are parabens in all of the products. Parabens, which are artificial preservatives, have been linked to skin irritations and contact dermatitis for some individuals with allergies.
  • While the history of these products is interesting, there doesn't seem to be any clinical trials or scientific evidence to back up each product.
  • The truth is, you are using microdermabrasion yourself. While it can be cost effective to use these treatments at home, you could overdo it and damage your delicate facial skin. Sometimes things like this are best left to the professionals.

The Bottom Line

Many customers seeking the benefits of microdermabrasion without the costs, probably feel like they've hit the jackpot with DermaNew. However, upon a closer look we just don't find the science and history of DermaNew to be substantial enough to warrant a quick decision. We feel more research might help in the buying process. Again, there is a reason that microdermabrasion is performed by professionals in spas, and it seems unwise to attempt it yourself without detailed instructions. The typical microdermabrasion process can be harsh to some skin, and users should proceed with extreme caution.
