Desquacrem Review

Updated On:

Overview

Desquacrem is a skin cleanser made by Sothys Paris. According to the Sothys website, Desquacrem digests fatty excretions, dis-encrusts the follicular orifice, and enzymatically emulsifies waxy esters, comedones (blackheads) and milia (hard waxy deposits). In other words, it cleans the skin.

The Sothys website states that Desquacrem should not be used by those with sensitive or reactive skin but that it is effective for all other skin types. The Sothys website does not list either the active or inactive ingredients in Desquacrem. Consumers cannot buy Desquacrem from the Sothys website but it appears to be widely available via third-party online retailers. Because the product is not sold by the manufacturer, there is no product guarantee policy that refunds your money if you are not happy with the product or if it causes a skin reaction. There also do not appear to be product samples or a trial size offered.

Product Details

Although the Sothys website does not provide a list of ingredients for Desquacrem, some of the online retailers do. According to these websites, the ingredients are: water, cetyl alcohol, sodium cocoyl wheat amino acids, stearic acid, sodium lauryl sulfate, decyl glucoside, ceteth-20, triethanolamine, steareth-20, fragrance, methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben.

Parabens, such as methylparaben and propylparaben, are preservatives that are known allergens, so the company’s warning to not use on sensitive or reactive skin is important to heed. Also, the term “fragrance” can mean many things, and may also cause a skin reaction. The active ingredients in Desquacrem are commonly found in skin cleansers and the product does not appear to have any special or unique qualities.

The Good

  • Deeply cleanses skin pores, according to the company.
  • Widely available from numerous online retailers.

The Bad

  • Active ingredients are commonly found in many department store skin cleansers.
  • Inactive ingredients include parabens which are known allergens.
  • No money-back guarantee or product samples available.
  • No clinical research available to show that the product does any better than soap at cleaning the skin.

The Bottom Line

Desquacrem likely works adequately at cleansing the skin. However, at around $30 for a 1.7 oz tube, consumers should expect more from their cleanser. The lack of a money-back guarantee means that if you are unhappy with Desquacrem for any reason, you may be stuck with the product. It also doesn’t appear that you can try it out ahead of time to make sure that it doesn’t cause a reaction on your skin. Desquacrem makes no claims of skin rejuvenation or wrinkle reduction, so if you are looking for a skin care product to help with those problems, it would be best to seek a product that is specifically formulated for your needs and includes proven ingredients like peptides.
