Dove ProAge Review

Updated On:

Overview

Dove ProAge Day Moisturizer is one of the many products that has been produce and manufactured over the years by Dove. In this review, we are going to examine the product’s ingredients in effort to try to distinguish if this product could be effective or not in helping to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles on the facial area.

Product Details

The claims that were made regarding Dove ProAge on 1 particular website include that it is a good moisturizer for dull skin, age spots and wrinkles. It says that this is not your usual quick-fix. The active ingredients that were listed on this site were Octinoxate (6.00%), Zinc Oxide (2.00%) and Glycerin. We are going to look at what the possible function of each of these ingredients included in Dove ProAge could be.

Octinoxate is shown to be one of the key ingredients sun blocks. Zinc Oxide is also one of the effective ingredients used in most sun blocks. This one is said to block the UVA rays. The idea of Glycerin in Dove ProAge is that it will be used as a moisturizer. There have been debates about its role as a moisturizer. Some people think that it can be used as a great moisturizer while others may think that it can literally take the moisture from the skin. The reasoning behind the latter part is because if you leave 100% glycerin open to the air, it will "suck up" the moisture and will become 80% Glycerin and 20% water. Also, a study showed that when a dab of glycerin was place on the tongue that it soaked up so much of the moisture that it raised a blister on the tongue due to dehydration on that particular spot.

One of the other ingredients mentioned that was listed as inactive was Dimethicone. During research it was found that it can cause side effects such as burning, itching or stinging. More serious side effects that could happen when combined with Zinc are rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; severe, persistent, or worsening itching, burning, stinging, or irritation.

The Good

  • Dove ProAge could be used as an effective sun block

The Bad

  • Appears to contain irritants.
  • Appears to contain no proven ingredients.
  • Some ingredients may cause severe allergic reactions.
  • The "moisturizer" in Dove ProAge may prove to be a dehydrator instead.
  • Consumer reports repeatedly complain of a terrible smell in the product.

The Bottom Line

When a regular person sees the name "Dove ProAge", they may tend to think of anti-wrinkle products. However this product does not appear to be anything of the sorts. The only thing that it may be effective at is as a sun block. Glycerin is named as the main moisturizer and that is theoretical at best. Better yet, or worst yet, you would think that an established company like Dove would know better to further research the ingredients in their products in order to prevent serious potential side effects, such as when you mix Dimethicone and Zinc. Most women would probably be disappointed in Dove's approach to this being an effective anti-aging product. Furthermore, it is not seen where this could be effective at all for smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.
