Emerita Review

Updated On:

Overview

Emerita has been around since the 1970’s and produces and sells menopause, skin care and progesterone products. Emerita’s products are sold through natural health food stores, including Whole Foods, and online at the Emerita website. The Emerita skin care line consists of face creams, serums, scrubs, and cleansers and toners. The Emerita products can be purchased individually or in collections. The Emerita website also offers two sets of sample packets of 5 different products, each for only $2.00.

Each product is well-explained on the website with a section for “why it works”, application instructions, and a full ingredient list. It seems that the only product in the Emerita skin care line targeted specifically at anti-wrinkle regimens is the Fine Line Eye Serum which claims to have dramatic effects on lessening the appearance of fine lines around the eyes. The moisturizers such as the Day Cream do not claim any restorative powers, but are simply meant to be part of a daily skin routine.

Product Details

For the purpose of this review, we will focus on the Fine Line Eye Serum, which is the only Emerita product specifically marketed as being effective against existing lines. The Fine Line Eye Serum may make a distinction between fine lines and wrinkles because the word “wrinkle” does not appear in the description. The main active ingredients in the Emerita Fine Line Eye Serum are a multi-peptide complex, gotu kola extract, white tea and cucumber. Peptides have been proven effective in the reduction of wrinkles and the re-invigoration of the skin’s ability to produce collagen, in particular Matrixyl 3000 and Argiriline. The Emerita website does not indicate that these two particular peptides are included in this formulation. There is some clinical evidence that gotu kola, a plant that grows mainly in Sri Lanka, may have a beneficial effect on wound healing and collagen regeneration. White tea contains powerful anti-oxidants but most research to date has focused on white and green tea’s effects when taken internally, not when applied topically.

We like that the Emerita Fine Line Eye Serum does not contain parabens, which are cosmetic preservatives that are known to induce allergies. Many of the higher-quality skin care lines do not include parabens for this reason.

The Good

  • Contains peptides.
  • Can purchase products from website or at health food stores.
  • Product samples are available.

The Bad

  • No money-back guarantee appears to be offered.
  • Company charges for product samples.
  • May not contain proven ingredients such as Matrixyl 3000 or Argiriline.
  • No links on website to clinical studies supporting the effectiveness of the active ingredients.

The Bottom Line

The Emerita skin care product line is definitely worth another look, especially the Fine Line Eye Serum, which contains some active ingredients that have been clinically-proven to be effective. We are disappointed however that Emerita does not appear to offer a money-back guarantee if the product does not live up to the hype or if you develop an allergic reaction to it. With all of the choices available today in anti-wrinkle formulations, you may wish to seek one that contains proven ingredients and one that the manufacturer stands behind with a satisfaction guarantee.
