Overview

Epionce products are based on a five phase system: Cleanse, Prepare, Treat, Renew/Fortify, and Protect. The products are claimed to be unique botanical formulations for which patents are pending. There are different products for different skin types, all designed to optimize the appearance of the skin and to prevent the effects of visible skin aging. Epionce products are sold through ‘qualified skin care professionals’ and are not available to be ordered directly online from the Epionce official website. The extensive list of available Epionce products includes: Milky Lotion Cleanser, Gentle Foaming Cleanser, Lytic Gel Cleanser, Purifying Lytic Toner, Re-Balancing Clarifier, Lite Lytic Lotion, Lytic Lotion Plus, Renewal Facial Cream, Renewal Facial Lotion, Renewal Lite Facial Lotion, Renewal Enriched Body Lotion, Extreme Barrier Cream, Medical Barrier Cream, Intensive Nourishing Cream, Renewal Eye Cream, and Active Shield Lotion with SPF 30.

Product Details

Epionce cleansers are the first step in the five step process meant to remove skin impurities such as makeup and environmental irritants. The Milky Lotion Cleanser, made with marshmallow extract, is for dry and sensitive skin. The Gentle Foaming Cleanser is for normal or combination skin and the Lytic Gel Cleanser is for problem oily or acne-prone skin. The next step is to balance and prepare the skin for other Epionce treatment products. The Lytic Toner controls bacteria and fungal activity on the skin and is meant for oily or problem skin. The Re-Balancing Clarifier is used to balance the natural pH of the skin and can be used for all skin types, even sensitive skin. Step three is when the skin is treated. With Lite Lytic Lotion for dry or sensitive skin, Lytic Lotion for normal or combination skin, and Lytic Lotion Plus for “problem” skin. These treatment products claim to treat skin imperfections such as redness, bacteria, irritation, extrinsic aging, scarring, and even precancerous growths. The products in the fourth step, Renew & Fortify, are moisturizers that Epionce claims will deeply penetrate the skin and reverse visible signs of aging. Key ingredients include Essential Fatty Acid, Sterol and Ceramide Precursors, Date & Apple Fruit Complexes, Rosehip, Safflower, and Avocado Complexes, and potato-derived Peptide. The fifth step involves protection from the sun with the Active Shield Lotion with SPF 30+. One of the key ingredients is Zinc Oxide, which is proven to protect skin from the sun.

The Good

  • Epionce products have a good presence on the web, with a separate page for each skin care product. The key ingredients of each product are listed. There is also a downloadable product sheet with a detailed ingredient list for every product.
  • Epionce products are sold in dermatologists’ offices and have been developed by a practicing dermatologist who claims Epionce products have been proven effective by nationally recognized research organizations. The results of the clinical tests are available on the website.

The Bad

  • Unless you go to a dermatologist that sells Epionce, it appears you cannot purchase the products and you cannot obtain pricing information from the website.
  • Although there are good product reviews online about the effectiveness of cleansers and moisturizers, there were no reviews that say whether or not Epionce effectively minimizes the appearance of wrinkles.
  • Many online reviews refer to Epionce products as being extremely pricey once you find a dermatologist to sell them to you.
  • Epionce’s 5-step system could certainly become time consuming and expensive.

The Bottom Line

Epionce products have been developed by a practicing dermatologist and appear to have been tested extensively with the results listed publicly on the official Epionce website. Since Epionce products are only sold through qualified skin care professionals however, they are not as easily accessible as other anti-aging products which can deter customers from seeking them out.

Our top pick for 2008:  Dermapril-SP

Dermapril-SP was rated the best-in-class performer, with a cutting-edge formula and results visible immediately after use. Matrixyl 3000™, the primary active ingredient in Dermapril-SP, is backed by clinical research that showed reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles of as much as 33% after two months of use. Additionally, the formula contains the European miracle ingredient Argatensyl™, which creates an immediate tightening effect on applied areas, making results visible within minutes of use.

The treatment helps the skin regain a more youthful biochemical makeup by supporting the natural production of three building blocks – Collagen, Fibronectin and Hyaluronic Acid. The result is a rapid rejuvenation, diminishing the appearance of wrinkles and other cosmetic signs of age caused by sun exposure, smoking, stress, and other common factors.

In clinical trials, Matrixyl 3000™ decreased the appearance of wrinkles by as much as 33% over a six week period. With the immediate tightening benefits of Argatensyl™, this formula has a completely unique combination of short-term cosmetic results as well as sustained, cumulative benefits to the skin. Common reported results include smoothing and firming; softer skin; diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; and healthier looking, glowing skin. Based on the high cost and quality of the ingredients, Dermapril-SP is reasonably priced.
