Overview
Facercise is the brainchild of Carole Maggio, a self-proclaimed expert in the field of "facial exercises". According to Maggio, performing proper exercises using the facial muscles will tighten and tone the face, leading to a restructured, younger looking complexion. She compares this process to that of a bodybuilder who sculpts his body by focusing on the various muscle groups. We agree that muscle toning is an important part of a fitness program today, but we have never heard of bodybuilders sculpting their muscles to improve the appearance of the skin! However, we will look further at the Facercise program to see if it may have any merit as an anti-aging treatment.
Maggio does not really explain how the exercises work on the Facercise website, but she does list a number of benefits of the program. These include raised eyebrows, enlarged eye sockets, diminished eye puffiness, a shortened nose, fuller lips, a defined chin, and a change to the color of the complexion. She does have numerous before and after photos but we are skeptical of the authenticity of this evidence. There is no scientific research cited to prove that exercising facial muscles will make one's complexion appear more youthful. The DVDs that demonstrate the exercises and offers complete programs for users to follow sell for about $42 on the product website. We were unable to find any information about a money back guarantee anywhere on the product website.
Product Details
Unfortunately, there is not much to be found in regards to product details, because the product website does not offer much solid information in regards to the program. However, we did find information on other websites that suggests that facial exercises like those in the Facercise program will not make the skin look more youthful. On the contrary, some doctors believe that additional exercise of those muscles can actually deepen wrinkles that are already there. That is why many effective anti-aging products are designed to relax or paralyze the facial muscles that can lead to lines and wrinkles with repeated contractions.
There are many good topical anti-aging treatments available today that contain proven ingredients like argireline, matrixyl, soluble collagen and hyaluronic acid. We would encourage women to look for products like these that directly affect the skin's appearance rather than attempting an approach to the process that is unproven and unconvincing.
The Good
- Facercise is a series of exercises designed to tone the muscles of the face.
The Bad
- We were unable to find a money back guarantee on the product.
- There is little evidence to support the claims of the Facercise program.
- Some evidence would suggest that facial exercise may have the opposite effect in increasing the formation of wrinkles.
The Bottom Line
In light of this information, we do not see anything in the Facercise program that will benefit women looking to reverse the signs of aging on the skin. In fact, these exercises may make lines and wrinkles even more pronounced. While we admire companies that try to find a new and innovative approach to anti-aging skin care, some of these programs simply cannot deliver on their promises.
