Overview
Hydrafresh is a collection of cleansers, toners and moisturizers by L’Oréal Paris. There are two cleansers in the collection: Hydrafresh Foaming Gel (for normal to oily skin) and Hydrafresh Daily Foaming Cream Scrub (an exfoliant for all skin types). The Hydrafresh Toner is marketed as a light refreshing formula that softens skin. There are two versions of the Hydrafresh Moisturizer, one for normal skin and one that is oil-free.
The Hydrafresh line is not targeted directly at aging skin and appears to be more of a general skin care regimen. This leads us to believe that the ingredients in Hydrafresh are not likely to be the same as those in higher-quality anti-aging formulations. In particular, we look for collagen, hyaluronic acid, and peptides, such as Matrixyl 3000 and Argiriline. These ingredients have been clinically-proven to reduce wrinkles and rejuvenate aging skin. We will look at the Hydrafresh ingredients in more detail below. L’Oréal products, including Hydrafresh, are available in most department stores and at numerous online retailers. The L’Oréal website does not appear to offer a satisfaction guarantee on its product or indicate whether trial sizes or samples are available.
Product Details
L’Oréal provides little in the way of detailed information about its products on its website. The company describes its cleansers as “infused with Vitamin C and essential minerals”. There is no further explanation of those essential minerals. Including Vitamin C in skin care products can be challenging. Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant, eliminating the free radicals that damage skin. However, Vitamin C is unstable in solutions and its effectiveness is short-lived except in special encapsulated formulas. There is no indication that Hydrafresh has such a formulation so we have to question the effectiveness of the Vitamin C that is included.
The Hydrafresh toner contains beta hydroxy acid, which chemically peels off dead skin cells. The company website does not indicate the strength or concentration of the active ingredient which makes it difficult to assess its effectiveness. The Hydrafresh moisturizers are even more difficult to find detailed information for. The moisturizers do not appear at all on the L’Oréal USA website. There is some indication that this product may be discontinued in the US at the time of this review but it is still available for purchase at online retailers. The ingredients are unknown. The only description available on the Canadian website is that the moisturizer cools, quenches and moisturizes the skin.
The Good
- Well-established company.
- Products available at online retailers.
The Bad

- Not labeled as non-allergenic.

The Bottom Line
Hydrafresh doesn’t appear to offer anything new or exciting in the way of anti-aging technology. It’s very low price point and lack of detailed information leads us to believe Hydrafresh may be simply another run-of-the-mill skin care line that tries to be all things to all people. If you are looking for an anti-aging or anti-wrinkle formulation, you may wish to seek out products with clinically-proven ingredients such as collagen and hyaluronic acid. There is no indication that Hydrafresh contains any of these ingredients.
