On this website critics examine a number of popular health and beauty products available on the market today. The information presented on the site about each of the products assessed has been obtained from publicly available sources. Those critics and this web site are sponsored by Rauscher | Bekke, manufacturers of Dermapril-SP. The information on this website is intended to inform and educate consumers. OverviewKiehl’s is a brand of skin care products founded in New York’s East Village in the 1850’s. The brand is primarily known for their men’s care lines, particularly products related to shaving, but they also make products suitable for men and women. Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream is one such product. The Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream has been formulated to minimize the effects of aging, and also to prevent further skin damage as a consequence of aging. As with most Kiehls formulations, the Abyssine Cream relies heavily on naturally derived active ingredients. For example, the title ingredient Abyssine is a “survival molecule” that, the makers claim, is found primarily around the rim of high-temperature underwater volcanoes. This Abyssine is what will be protecting your skin from UV rays and other daily damagers. The Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream is intended to be used twice daily, once in the morning and then again in the evening. However, it is not intended for use around the eyes to prevent crow’s feat and other fine lines. Since these can be real problem areas for some people, this may not be a product for everyone. However, not surprisingly Kiehl’s does offer a separate Abyssine Eye Cream for just such a potential user. Product DetailsIn addition to the “survival molecule” Abyssine, also known as Alteromanas Ferment Extract, Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream also uses an extensive list of naturally derived ingredients. These include soy (Aminokine) and wheat (Phytopeptides), both of which are claimed to improve skin texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Another natural ingredient is apricot kernel oil, a skin conditioner that that also functions as a moisturizer. Finally, Kiehl’s has incorporated the antioxidants ginkgo extract and Polytocopherol to help prevent further free radical damage. We were not able to find a full list of all ingredients for Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream. The Good
The Bad
The Bottom LineThere’s no denying the fact that, as a brand, Kiehl’s has a pretty devoted following. However, they are much better known for their men’s products than they are for their skin care products. We certainly admire the use of natural ingredients in Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream, but there’s a lot more we’d like to know about it. For example, besides the handful of active ingredients described on the official product page, what else goes into this cream? Is there any product development data or comparison studies that we could see before we purchase Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream? And really, what is a “survival molecule?” This does look like it could be a pretty strong product, but we’d have to know a little bit more about Kiehl’s Abyssine Cream before we could really make an informed decision.
