La Prairie Review

Updated On:

Overview:

Laboratoiries La Prairie draws on its heritage as a part of Clinic La Prairie in Switzerland. Clinic La Prairie has over fifty years of anti-aging skin care research and experience and is a world leader in the development of cellular therapies. Laboratories La Prairie is no longer a part of the Clinic, but the product still associates this trademarked foundation in anti-aging cellular therapy with its skin care products.

Along with its lines of anti-aging skin care products, La Prairie offers a range of makeup products, sun care products and fragrances. Skin care treatments and makeup products utilize La Prairie's cellular technology to attempt to reduce the signs of aging as well as slow the aging process.

Product Details:

La Prairie's lines of products use its exclusive Cellular Complex, which claims to deliver nutrients beneficial to the youthful appearance and health of skin in order to reduce the damage of old age, environment or stress. These products aim to both immediately reduce the visible signs of aging and to help keep skin looking young over time. Products include an array of treatment options, color and aesthetics products, as well as a line of fragrances and an anti-aging collection. It can be hard to understand what many of these products have to do with the original La Prairie Clinic, other than the name. The collection includes products to protect the skin from sun damage, as well as a cleanser and a refining lotion. La Prairie offers a skin caviar collection, one of the most expensive treatments on the market, which utilizes caviar extracts and sea proteins to attempt to increase elasticity as well as revitalize tired skin and smooth texture. However, we found a complete ingredient list difficult to find, leaving us confused about whether the caviar used in this product is actually an active ingredient.

La Prairie also offers a line of cellular de-agers, which use bioengineered serums to target specific skin care needs. These products can be personalized, allowing a woman to create her own treatment regimen, adding or removing serums as needed.

La Prairie's color products are all based on cellular anti-aging therapies, and do double duty as skin treatment and make up. Makeup products include lip colors, eyeliners, mascaras, cheek enhancers and cellular de-aging treatment foundation. Products can be used together for advanced skin care treatment. For example, La Prairie's skin caviar products can be used as a primer for any of its makeup products.

The Good:

  • Products for sale on official website.
  • Official website offers visitors personal skin care consultations to identify specific treatment programs and products.
  • La Prairie guarantees its products, as long as they are sold through an authorized retailer.

The Bad:

  • Official website does not provide all ingredients for all products.
  • Products are very expensive.
  • Product descriptions are not specific enough about what products do and how.
  • No free sample from website.
  • No longer associated with founding clinic.

The Bottom Line:

Although La Prairie claims to use scientifically advanced cellular technology, it does not explain well how that technology works. La Prairie also fails to adequately tell customers product details, including ingredients for many of its products. La Prairie's personalized consultation allows customers to identify specific concerns and the products related to them, but information about the products themselves is not made clear. While effective for reducing the signs of aging, La Prairie's cellular treatments seem mostly focused on topical applications and cover-up beautifications, rather than long-term treatment, as suggested.
