Liz Earle Skin Care Review

Updated On:

Overview

Liz Earle is a cosmetics company based in the UK with a distribution network in the United States. The Liz Earle Skin Care line is botanically-based, vegetarian-friendly, and effective, according to the company’s website. Liz Earle carries a full line of cleansers, toners, moisturizers and masks. All of the Liz Earle Skin Care products can be purchased directly from the company’s website. The website provides a short explanation of each product, along with descriptions of its claimed benefits. An ingredient list is provided, which we like to see, but it is unclear as to whether it is a complete ingredient list. There are some customer testimonials on the site but no before or after pictures or links to any clinical studies supporting the effectiveness of the Liz Earle products.

One feature that we really like to see in a skin care company is a money-back guarantee policy. This allows the customer to purchase confidently knowing that they can return the product if it doesn’t work for them or if it triggers allergies. Liz Earle products come with a money-back guarantee.

Product Details

The Liz Earle Skin Care products do provide a list of ingredients but the website does not specify whether the list is complete or not. Many of the ingredients in the Liz Earle line are botanicals, such as avocado oil and Echinacea extract. Several of the moisturizers also contain Vitamin E, which is known to have a beneficial effect on the outer layers of the skin. When looking at skin care products that claim to have a moisturizing or anti-aging effect on the skin, we look for clinically-proven ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which deeply hydrates the skin, or peptides like Matrixyl 3000 or Argiriline which stimulate collagen production and smooth wrinkles from underneath. These ingredients do not appear to be present in the Liz Earle formulations.

One ingredient that is included in several of the Liz Earle Skin Care products is methylparaben. Methylparaben is a cosmetic preservative that is also a known allergen. Some studies also suggest that it is a potential carcinogen as well. Many higher-quality skin care products exclude methylparaben because of this. Not only do some of the Liz Earle products contain this ingredient but the company devotes an entire page to the benefits of methylparaben (and other parabens) along with an argument as to why the many negative paraben studies are invalid. Regardless of the controversial nature of this ingredient, it can trigger allergies in some users so those with skin allergies and sensitivities should exercise caution if using these products.

The Good

  • Some products contain Vitamin E.
  • Products are available directly from manufacturer’s website.

The Bad

  • All ingredients may not be listed for each product.
  • Doesn’t appear to include clinically-proven ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
  • Some products contain known allergens.

The Bottom Line

There are hundreds of skin care products on the market today that claim to be effective and naturally-based. None of the stated ingredients in the Liz Earle Skin Care products lead us to conclude that there is something unique about this line. Those seeking products specifically targeted towards aging skin should look for effective ingredients in formulations backed up by clinical testing.
