Perricone Review

Updated On:

Overview

Perricone M.D. Cosmeceuticals come from Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a rather controversial dermatologist who has developed a plan of eating, vitamin supplementation and skin care that promises to halt aging. Perricone has written several best-selling books on the topic but contemporaries generally find his statements unsupported by standard medical research.

Perricone’s skin care line includes cleansers, toners, moisturizers and serums. The face products include more than 55 individual products. With this much variety, the consumer may be confused when trying to choose the right product. Perricone’s skin care products are available to purchase directly from the company’s website, however some of the products are extremely expensive compared to competing products. For example, a 2 ounce jar of the Neuropeptide Firming Moisturizer is $280.00 at the time of this review. These products may be out of financial reach for the vast majority of consumers. The Perricone company offers a 30-day money back guarantee which is something we like to see. The website is informative with ingredients being described and a full list of ingredients presented. There is also mention of independent studies on the products but not enough detail is provided to be able assess the validity of the study.

Product Details

Perricone skin care formulations vary in their active ingredients. Two of the ingredients in the Perricone products that we are impressed with are: Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 which is also patented as Argiriline and Sodium Hyaluronate which is also known as hyaluronic acid. Argiriline has been clinically proven to penetrate below the skin and relax facial muscles to smooth the wrinkles on top. It is a strong anti-wrinkle tool. Hyaluronic acid can hold over 1,000 times its weight in water and is a powerful skin hydrator.

We were disappointed and a bit surprised to find parabens in many of the Perricone formulations. Parabens are cosmetic preservatives that are known allergens and possible carcinogens. Many higher-quality skin care products exclude them because of this. Those who have skin allergies or sensitivities may wish to review the list of ingredients with your doctor or dermatologist.

The Good

  • Some products contain Argiriline and hyaluronic acid.
  • Can purchase directly from manufacturer.
  • Money-back guarantee offered.

The Bad

  • Very expensive compared to competitive products.
  • Contains known allergens.
  • May not contain collagen.
  • Little detail provided regarding clinical studies.

The Bottom Line

Perricone skin care products do have several things to recommend them however, you should not have to mortgage your house to have an effective skin care regimen. Fortunately, there are products on the market that contain Argiriline, Matrixyl 3000 and other powerful anti-wrinkle ingredients that are affordable. You may wish to compare other products that feature these active ingredients with the Perricone line before you make your decision. You will most likely save hundreds of dollars, which is definitely worth the time spent on skin care research.
