Overview
Phytomer is both an international line of high-end spas and a line of home treatments produced by these spas. Phytomer’s home products all focus on marine extracts as active ingredients, and this is the philosophy that tries to keep the line coherent. There is also a line of products formulated specifically for men. The Phytomer spas pioneer innovative, different therapies that combine the company’s emphasis on marine extracts with other new and novel approaches to body therapy. Products are available from all spas, and are also available from several retail outlets in France.
Phytomer offers four main categories of products: face products, body products, sun care products and men’s products. Each product category is further subdivided in several different lines, each targeted at a different skin condition. Phytomer makes products for dry, oily, sensitive and aging skin. Their line of sun care products includes sun protection products, post-exposure products and self-tanning products.
Product Details
We will focus less on the company’s sun care products, and more on their skin care products. Phytomer’s category of facial care products breaks down into eight distinct product lines. Each line is then made up of several separate products. Although the website does have a detailed questionnaire to help potential customers zero in on the product that’s right for them, it’s easy to see where getting the advice of a skin care professional at one of Phytomer’s spas would make things a lot easier. Several of these individual product lines are actually multi-step skin care regimens, and ideally a user will purchase and use all products for optimal results.
Since it’s hard to generalize about the entire Phytomer brand, we will take a look at a typical sample product. The Ogenage line from Phytomer is specifically designed to combat aging. Active ingredients in the Ogenage initial cream, intended to fight initial signs of aging, are: Sea Lavender oil, Lipophilline and Oil From Undraria’s Fertile Bases. We were curious about what, exactly, that last item is, but no real details are given. Since Phytomer’s product development centers around seawater and seaweed, it may be related to one of those. Additionally, no full list of product ingredients is posted on the official website, meaning that the only way to determine what’s in this cream is to buy it. Phytomer also offers a “complementary products” feature that will recommend one or two additional products that, when combined with the selected product, will theoretically enhance results.
The Good
- Intensive questionnaire on website will help you select suitable products.
- Info on product trials is given for many products.
- Phytomer spas and products are currently found in over 70 countries.
The Bad
- No price points given for products.
- No full ingredient lists given.
- Since products are primarily available only in Phytomer’s exclusive spas, they may be difficult to obtain, especially since they do not appear to be offered for order online.
- Large number of products available can be confusing.
The Bottom Line
Phytomer looks like they’ve created a solid line of body treatment spas, located all over the globe. However, there skin care products can be difficult to track down without a spa visit. We have not had the opportunity to visit one of these spas, but we imagine that the professionals there would be able to provide much more information on the Phytomer line of home products. With the information available on the official website, we are left with a lot of question marks regarding product pricing, availability and many ingredients.
