Shankara Review

Updated On:

Overview

Shankara was launched by Bonnie Gulick, a Nutritionist, Cosmetic Chemist and Educator in January 2003. The vision was to bring together the natural traditions of the Eastern hemisphere with the scientific breakthroughs of the West. The philosophy of Shankara is the belief that every skin type is unique. The company stresses that their products have been specially tailored to give your skin a unique experience of nutrition, oxygenation, hydration, and protection. The company promotes that “the key” to Shankara is its unique energizing regeneration, nutrient complex, and the Regenesis-Energen BioComplex. The claim is that the Regenesis-Energen BioComplex includes ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate, the natural cell energizer), and monoatomic elements such as gold, rhodium and iridium, rare super conductors of energy. As this unique complex interacts with herbs, specially selected from as far as the Himalayas, the result is “a guarantee” of vibrant, balanced, and radiant skin.

Product Details

There are three categories in the Shankara product line. These include Facial Line, Body Line and Aromatherapy. In addition there are multiple products in each category. One of the products in the Facial Line is Regenesis-Energen Cell Serum. The product is designed to provide deep tissue repair and regeneration with skin-firming effects claiming that Shankara’s “exclusive” Regenesis-Energen BioComplex accelerates the age-reversal process. The company insists that their own clinical labs showed “significant line and wrinkle reduction”, as well as a major increase in cellular oxygen and hydration, with the addition of stabilized skin soluble Vitamin C Ester. The ingredients from the packaging include Polysaccharide Peptide Complex, Vitamins A, C, E, Niacinamide, Carbohydrate Complex Veg., Glycoaminoglycans, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sweet Almond Protein, Wheat Protein Extract, Aloe Leaf, Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Extract, Soy Protein, Herbal Extracts, Algae Extract, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Essential Oils and Lecithin. The package directions suggest applying the product to the face and neck one or two times per day saying that it is best to follow with the Shankara Antioxidant Cream or Ayurveda Facial Oil designed for your specific skin type. They do not recommend using Shankara on skin with blemishes.

The Good

  • Products can be purchased online directly from the official website.
  • Products contain natural ingredients which can be good for consumers looking for a “greener” option.
  • Shankara offers a full line of products for the face and body.

The Bad

  • The official website does not publish the clinical research for its products.
  • The Shankara website does not post before and after photos of consumers who have tried the products with positive results.
  • The products are expensive and may not be affordable for many consumers.
  • The official website does not post any customer testimonials.

The Bottom Line

Ultimately there is no way no substantiate the claims of any product without publishing the clinical research and backing it up with customer testimonials and before and after photos. According to the Shankara website, the products are designed to be used together. Many consumers prefer an all inclusive product rather than having to purchase many different products which drive up the cost as well as complicate the application process. The official website is disorganized and contains too many products making it difficult to sift through the items to find “your skin type”. Consumers who are drawn to “natural products” may like Shankara. The ingredients in the Shankara line may offer some moisturizing and antioxidant benefits to the skin. However, for consumers who are searching for a proven anti-aging skin care product, they might want to buy a product that contain advanced ingredients such as Matrixyl 3000 or Argireline which have been shown to safely reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
