Everyone knows the cliché about the needle in the haystack, but it’s so appropriate that I can’t help but drag it out one more time. Yes, finding an anti-aging treatment that works for you can truly be like (sigh) finding a needle in a haystack. The market for these products is growing at an alarming rate, as the famous baby boom generation ages, and also as consumers become more health and image conscious. Of course, this is a mixed blessing. It’s great news that big labs are putting serious money into researching and developing wrinkle treatments, including companies like La Mer and Korrs. But it’s not just the big brand names that show promise either. Some boutique products that may not be as familiar to the general public, such as Lifecell or LIERAC, might also show tremendous promise, not least because they’re focused solely on developing only one or two anti-aging products instead of entire product lines. However, the rise in wrinkle treatment production could also have downsides for consumers, and that’s the inevitable rise of unscrupulous “cash-in” brands. Usually, for these products, the advertising budget is bigger than the product development budget, and they’re just looking to make some money with a big ad blitz, and then to fade into the background.
