Overview

Zhen is a cosmetic company that has formulated makeup and skin care products designed for Asian women and for women of color. The company was founded by Susan Lee, who is now the President of Zhen, along with her sister. They say that all of their skin care products are made from quality ingredients, dermatologically tested, and suitable for sensitive skin. They also say that none of their products are tested on animals, and are also mineral oil free. There are a number of products in the Zhen skincare range, including the Whipped Face cream, which the company claims moisturizes your skin and contains antioxidants, and the Lightening cream which they say will diminish age spots and lighten dark pigmentation. There is also the Face Crème/Liposome which is formulated for aging and dry skin. They say that this cream improves skin texture and restores elasticity.

Product Overview

Most of the Zhen skin care products are reasonably priced and there is an official website giving details of stores from which you can buy the products, as well as the option to order online from the official website. The Lightening Cream ,which they assert diminishes age spots and lightens dark coloration, contains 2% hydroquinone and is priced at $27.

The Face Crème/ Liposome is also priced at $27 and contains Liposomes. The Whipped Face cream is marketed as a face cream for those who want a high UV protection, and its ingredients include grape seed extract, which is an antioxidant extract, and Avocado oil.

The Good

The Bottom Line

Zhen does not engage in aggressive marketing and their website is aesthetically pleasant to browse through. They do not make extraordinary claims for their skin care products, but they do of course make some claims. There is however little evidence offered to back up these claims, and there have been some safety concerns about hydroquinone, which is in fact a skin bleach. Hydroquinone is present in Zhen’s skin lightening cream. Their products also contain ingredients which are common components in other skin care products. It is certain that their skin care products are reasonably priced, but how they distinguish themselves from other common skin care products on the market today. If you are an Asian woman or an African American woman, some of Zhen’s specialty products could offer tailored solutions for your skin type that might not be considered by other skin product lines.
